Parliament is bicameral and is located in Ottawa.
The House of Commons has 299 members, who are elected to five-year terms by popular vote. The number of members is determined after each census. The Senate normally has 105 members, who are appointed by the governor-general on the recommendation of the prime minister. They must retire at age 75.
