All measurements are in metric, with the British numbers being in parentheses. Subspecies, alternate names of species, varieties, hybrids, and cultivars are not listed.
Except for one species in Indonesia, all species are limited to the Northern Hemisphere. The largest number of species are native to eastern Asia, with only a few to North America. The most popular species is the Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), with over 250 cultivars.
