  • He made and recorded many observations which were superior to those of his predecessors.
  • He spent much time in determining the direction of Mecca (the qibla).
  • He tabulated the times of prayer in relation to the Sun’s daily motion.
  • He calculated that the angle between the observed and true horizon to be forty minutes (0°40′).
