Introduction

There are more than a dozen types of vegetarians. Some still eat dairy, fish, chicken, or eggs. A vegetarian may also be anyone from a once-a-week-wanna-be to a total raw-food vegan. Those who choose a vegetarian diet, do so for a variety of reasons. Whatever the reason, the long-term health benefits cannot be overlooked.

Within the broad scope of vegetarianism comes a range of sweeping generalities right down to specifics. Generalities can include the pros and cons of eating dairy, fish, chicken, eggs or processed non-meat items. Specifics will include veganism, organic foods, raw food diets, and the pros and cons of each.

The American Dietetic Association says vegetarian seniors live longer, lose less bone mass, and have fewer incidents of cancer or heart disease – by half again as much as as non-vegetarians. Even the daily consumption of nuts can add two years or more to the average lifespan.

Whatever the personal choice, there is always something to learn that will help us all live longer and with a better quality of life to that longevity.
