With the rising cost of animal protein, it becomes harder for a family to maintain a meat-eating lifestyle in any country. The cost is substantial to feed animals, and that cost must be passed along to the consumer.
It is maintained that government subsidies are actually forcing people into an unhealthy diet.
The taxpayer ends up paying three-fold:
1) for its production
2) for the cost of cleaning the environment because of animal production
3) for increased health care costs related to animal product consumption.
If subsidies favored organic growers and grain/vegetable/fruit/honey/maple syrup producers, populations would be healthier and could be fed far more cheaply and efficiently.
