Artichoke

  • What it is: A plant belonging to the Thistle family (Cynara scolymus asteraceae)

  • Also known as: garden artichoke, globe artichoke, alcachofra, cardo, cardoon, cynara

  • Dosage:
    • 320 mg three times a day
    • tincture, 15 to 30 drops in a small amount of water three times a day
  • Supplement Forms: capsules, tinctures, juice, dried herb




  • Interactions: May interfere with the absorption of iron salts.

  • Cautions:
    • Do not use if you have bile duct blockage, gallstones, or a sensitivity to artichokes, arnica, or chrysanthemums.
    • Use cautiously in liver or renal disease.
