His favourite route for scenery was the CN line from Jasper,AB, to Prince Rupert, BC. There are thousands of waterfalls for hundreds of miles. He also liked the CP one from Vancouver, BC, to Calgary, AB, and the CN one from Vancouver to Jasper. He did not work on a dayliner, a short electric line train, or a freight train.
A long rail, constructed of special steel to conteract expansion and contraction, is now used. It is welded about every quarter-mile; whereas formerly, a rails was thirty-three feet in length.
In 1915, C.P.R. paid their workers 15 cents an hour and had them work for 14 hours a day.
