Glutathione

GLUTATHIONE, sometimes abbreviated to GHS, is a tripeptide of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. It is not considered a true amino acid, but does have a close enough relationship to them to be included. It is a powerful antioxidant that inhibits the formation of free radicals. It protects against damage from cigarette smoke and radiation, and helps reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and x-rays. As a detoxifier of heavy metals and drugs, it aids in the treatment of blood and liver disorders and combats alcohol poisoning. Studies have demonstrated a connection between ageing and a deficiency of glutathione. Supplemental forms are quite expensive; and there is doubt on the effectiveness of the oral forms. Only a knowledgeable health care practisioner would be able to decide if supplementation be truly necessary.
