A liniment is a liquid preparation with a base of oil, alcohol, or a blend of the two for external application. Liniments are often applied with friction to increase blood circulation to an injury or for sore, stiff muscles. Tinctures can also be used with warming or stimulating essential oils, especially wintergreen, camphor, cloves, ginger, cayenne, and cinnamon.
- 2 teaspoons castor oil
- 1 tablespoon each of glycerin, aloe gel, cayenne tincture
- 30 drops essential oil of cinnamon
Combine all ingredients in a bottle and shake well. Apply as necessary. This is a wonderful liniment for loosening up stiff muscles.
- 1/4 teaspoon capsicum tincture
- 25 drops rosemary oil
- 25 drops lavender oil
- 50 ml (2 fluid ounces) almond oil
Combine and massage daily onto affected areas. It is especially good for muscle pain, rheumatism, arthritis, neuralgia, sprains, and strains.
