Irradiation of food is another area of concern. Irradiation is just a high-tech way of saying that cleanliness standards have been relaxed so that any feces that might be in meat will be rendered harmless. It may be clean, but who wants “poop” in their food?
When food is irradiated, a powerful current (equal to 150 million chest x-rays) is sent through an overhead gun, which is supposed to kill all living bacteria by breaking down its DNA. This technology not only kills bacteria, but also such nutrients as vitamins A, E, and K, leaving carcinogens in their place.
Many scientists are concerned about the safety of irradiated foods. Reseach is finding that a new class of chemicals is created during irradiation. Cyclobutanones are chemicals that have been shown to cause genetic and cellular damage in rats as well as people. "We have solid evidence on the chemistry. Independent groups that have looked at the chemical data, have stated categorically that these chemicals are carcinogenic," stated Dr. Samuel Epstein of the University of Chicago School of Public Health.
The FDA in the US and Health Canada are rejecting these findings. Judging from past history of these two agencies, this rejection is all the more reason consumers need to be skeptical of their acceptance of the practice. If irradiation for meat be approved, products in Canada will be clearly labelled "treated by irradiation." In the United States, however, industry is fighting the label. Therefore, Consumers Beware! You must stop being so trusting and start finding out what you are really eating and what it is doing to your body – and those you love.

GE or GMOs
Genetically Engineered, also known as Genetically Modified Organisms, is a relatively new area of concern. Because it is rather recent, no long term effects can yet be determined. We can however, take note from animal behavior. When animals refuse to eat GE crops, people should have the good sense to take notice. See more information here.
